Farmer Helga

The bluebonnets have started to bloom here in Texas, which means spring has arrived! We may have only a few more weeks till the weather is scorching hot... so its time to get my flowers planted.

I'm trying to sound like I know what I'm doing, like I actually have a green thumb. I should, being descendants of potato farmers. But no... I don't.

Usually I pick up flowers from my local neighborhood mega hardware store, but this year I'm going to grow my own!

Again, I'm trying to sound like I know what I'm talking about, but no... I don't.

Tonight I saw a post about making your own biodegradable plant pots, so I gave it a try! It was actually very easy, taking about 45 minutes to roll the newspaper containers, fill them with soil and seeds, and add a little bit of water. The hardest part is waiting 7-10 days for the seeds to germinate, which is when I'll plant the entire container in the ground.

Left to right are seeds of: Zinnia, Shasta Daisy, Sunflower, Petunia, and Forget Me Not. If these flowers even sprout, I doubt they'll make it through the hot Texas summer... But I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Isn't it adorable? Besides the fun & flirty pattern, its a great combination of colors.

Eat, Drink, & Be Merry!

I love the coasters I received from Mama & Jack for the coaster swap! I don't embroider, so this is special for me. I love all the details she put into the coasters. The embroidery, the ric-rak edges, and the sweet strawberry fabric. It feels like its straight out of a Country Living magazine and I love it!

You can see all the talented swappers on the coaster swap flickr group. Some of my favorites are Junie Moon's Breakfast at Tiffany's coasters, Small Fox in a Big World's Red, White, and Blue themed coasters, and i heart linen's checkered spring coasters, complete with their own carrying case!
