Speaking of baking...

I like to think of myself as a somewhat skillful baker. I'm much better with the sweet treats than regular food.

A few years ago for a friend's 30th birthday, her boyfriend asked me to make a cake. I gladly accepted! Yum... An excuse to bake!!

Except, I waited to the last minute. Not to worry, I thought. I can do this before the party!

After baking the cake in my 9x13 pan and letting it cool, guess what? It wouldn't come out of the pan. I called my mom for advice and she said, "You greased and floured the pan right? And let it cool completely? It should have come out easily." I think I forgot to grease or flour. Because it didn't come out easily. UGH. Not to worry -- I had an excellent idea! I had some leftover batter and planned on making a cupcake or two anyway. I would use cupcakes to fill in the missing cake pieces and with enough frosting, you wouldn't be able to tell anyway!

What do you think... can you tell?

Yeah, you can tell.

I thought it was the most sad looking cake in the whole wide world. I couldn't serve it to my friend! So I went out and bought a cake at the grocery store.

Oh, I never mentioned the theme of this party. It was a birthday party/celebration of the fall of Saddam Hussein. A little gruesome in my opinion... but kind of funny in a sick way. So, that's why I included Mounds Bars on the cake. That's what he survived on in his bunker, before he was captured and told the world, "I am Saddam Hussein, the President of Iraq. I am willing to negotiate."

Oh yeah, I also found a Ken doll for decoration of the original birthday cake. He was our little party favor for the night. And... turns out... Lahari loved the homemade cake the most!

Lemon Bars Are My Specialty

This upcoming Sunday I'm attending a White Elephant Ornament Swap Party. If enough guests are interested, there will also be a Cookie Exchange. Not that I need the extra calories around the holidays, but I'm in the mood to bake! Baking is definitely my favorite activity in the kitchen!

I've been scouring the interweb this past month, taking in ideas for possible recipes. My specialty are Lemon Bars. I've been using my mom's recipe for the past 9 years. Hint to all you readers: its just Betty Crocker, but I double the recipe for a 9x11 pan and don't include lemon zest!

Tonight I saw these chocolate chip cookie bars. Don't they look heavenly?

These Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookie Sandwiches sound good too.

If I made Spritz cookies, I could use a fun kitchen gadget... And decorate with colored sugar.

Oh... decisions, decisions!
