My Row

I'm participating in a Row Robin Swap with some other quilters on the internet. I finished my row last night. This quilt from glittergoods was my motivation... but I went with a darker blue background fabric and brighter green fabrics that I found in my stash.

Here are closeup photos of the fabric choices:

I don't know if I've set my stitches on my machine too small, but the fabric is gathering and pluckering. I don't mind so much -- but I hope this doesn't happen with the other rows I will sew during the swap!

If my swap partners are reading this, here are the details on what I'd love for my rows.

* Fabric shades of medium blue and lime or kelly green. Additional accent colors and blues & greens are welcome! Use your stash! The wackier the fabric, the better.
* I will use white fabric as the borders, so you can use white if you want.
* Width: 50.5 inches. Each row should be 50 inches when finished.
* The theme is modern quilting. I'd love stacked coins, zig zags, wonky squares, disappearing nine patches, stars, log cabin, or any block/row sampler.
* Embellishments to a minimum, please. I will be washing this quilt frequently and don't want to lose anything in the wash!
* I have no preference on raw edge applique.

I have already received a row from one of the swappers. She was quick! Her row is a sampler of Underground Railroad quilt blocks. Its a very cool idea!

Beach Bags, 101 Posts, and a GIVEAWAY

A week ago I saw filminthefridge's tutorial for creating a beach bag from Orla Kiely's dishtowels. I LOVED IT. I have been eyeing the Orla Kiely collection on the Target website and all over the internet for weeks now. This bag was adorable -- I wanted one of my own!

Ok, do you know how hot this collection is? They didn't have the dishtowels at the first Target I checked out. I talked to a clerk who told me that they had some towels a few days before, but they went fast. Great... will I be able to find any dishtowels anywhere in Austin? Luckily, the next Target I checked out not only had the brown & orange dishtowels, but also the flower & blue towel collection.

I made a brown & orange bag for myself... and I'm giving away the flower & blue bag to one lucky reader!

The Rules Of The Giveaway
(1) Leave a comment to this blog. Make sure I have a way to get ahold of you if you win. Each comment earns 1 entry.
(2) Post a link to this giveaway on your blog! A post on your blog earns 2 entries. Please leave a comment that you have posted about the entry on your blog along with a link.
(3) Entries must be posted by Sunday March 15th at 7 p.m. CST. I will randomly select a winner through a random number generator that night and post the giveaway results on Monday!

Oh, and for all you seamstresses out there. The beach bag tutorial was so easy to follow. The only difference between my bag and filminthefridge's bag is I didn't have enough fabric for panels that were 22x14 inches. Even after I opened the seams on my dishtowels, I trimmed the panels to 21x14 inches. No biggie -- it still worked out perfectly!
