Olympics!

Tonight is the opening ceremonies for the Vancouver Winter Olympics. Will you be watching?

I actually got to work at the Sydney games in 2000! I have four scrapbooks of my adventures. My work involved setting up record keeping devices at the timed venues. Most of the time the venue operators could install the software on their own system... but every once in awhile a coworker and I would have travel to the Olympic Park and check it out ourselves. Tough job, I know!

On our free time my friends and I attended the games. Some tickets were given out by our employer, but the cool stuff (like opening or closing ceremonies) always went to managers. The rest of us got tickets to volleyball or wrestling or table tennis! It was also very easy to get tickets to events. I saw a semi-final of swimming, the finals for women's artistic gymnastics, and the finals for men's handball.

Bet you had a fabulous experience. Isn't Sydney beautiful! My Husband was born there & I visited Australia in 1994. We love the Olympics and watch them faithfully. I always start a quilt project timed for the Opening Ceremonies with the goal of having the top done by the Closing Ceremonies. Fun way to get something done & watch the events too.
Thanks for sharing...

This is a good post to reply to - you've been to Australia, but maybe not Brisbane where I live? You're down as no reply Rainy so I couldn't email you. The postage stamp will be easier with strips, but it's just one more quilt to add to the UFO pile. We'll see...

taylorsoutback: Yes, I had a fabulous experience! I like the idea of your Olympics quilt project. I'll keep that in mind for London 2012!

Jenni: No, I never got to Brisbane. My friends and I did a little bit of traveling around Sydney on the weekends (visited Three Sisters and went on a houseboat trip). After the Olympics were finished, a friend and I went to Cairns to relax on the beach. Little did we know how HOT the weather would be and that the jellyfish were so dangerous that time of the year. :)

That is so cool!!

Oh, and you asked awhile back when I run. I do run in the mornings, so there have been some COLD ones this winter! But usually it's not too bad; I tend to overdress a lot of the time, and once I warm up I'm stripping off hat & gloves. :)
